Oberstdorf St. Moritz Transalp, 2016-07-17
This is a beautiful tour from Oberstdorf to St. Moritz (Engadin) that traverses 7 mountain passes in 5 days: Schrofenpass (medium to difficult), Freibürger Hütte (difficult), Kristbergssattel (road), Schlappiner Joch (medium, drainage logs awkward), Durannapass (easy and fluent), Hörnli Hütte (part bikable, difficult but short), Urdenfürggli (difficult start, then medium to easy trails), Lenzerheide skigebiet (purpose built tracks) and lastly Julier pass (tarmac) or Septimer pass.
In total nearly 8000 meters, and 225 km over 5 days makes this a somewhat ambitious tour, but on many of the days we had plenty of time to relax and enjoy our stay. We found Gargellen to be a particularly beautiful area.
Our alpencross route: Oberstdorf, Schrofenpass (900 hm), Lech, Freibürger Hütte (600 hm), Dalaas, Kristbergssattel (600 hm), Schruns, St Gallenkirsch (100 hm), Gargellen (600 hm), Schlappiner Joch (800 hm), Klosters (100 hm), Durannapass (1160 hm), Strassberg, Langwies, Litzirüti, Arosa (400 hm), Hörnli Hütte (860hm), Urdenfürggli (100hm), Lenzerheide skigebiet, Tiefencastel, Cunter, Bivio (1050 hm), Julier pass (600 hm), St. Moritz.
Return trip with Rhaetian bahn from St. Moritz-Bad to Oberstdorf via Chur and St Margrethen. The Swiss trains are pretty but expensive.
