Hochgehrenspitze ski tour, 2017-01-29
Hochgehrenspitze is not often visited in winter. As a ski tour, it starts from Wildental along the same route as more popular Schüsser (D). At Wannenalpe it leaves the Schüsser track, and continues south east along the mountainside until right below the southern slope of Hochgehrenspitze. As expected, we had to track from this point, but today the snow was well settled from many days of sunshine making this an easier task.
Up at the SW ridge, the climb steepens and sooner or later forces a ski depot. There are some bits of easy scrambling on rock to reach the pre-summit. From there, it's a short drop onto the very steep final summit slope, and up along this slope the last 50 or so meters to the summit.
