Weisser Schrofen ski tour, Kleinwalsertal 2015-02-13
After three warm days we sought out the shade at the north slope of Weisser Schrofen, an anonymous peak at around 2130 m between Heiterberg and Höferspitze. The tour ascends through Bärgunttal from Baad. The upper part contains a steep section where good kickturns are called for. Powder seekers would end the tour some 20 meters below the summit, which offers rather steep climbing on rock (or through a gully, if there is a lot of snow). The rock part is excellently bolted, we might just want to come back for that. Descent is either through a western gully, which is wider and a little less steep (our ascent route), or through another gully just to the east, which is both narrow and steep. Having descended the western gully first, we enjoyed the snow so much that we put the skins back on, went up and did the eastern gully as well. With the extra 250 height meters it still didn't sum up to more than around 1140 in total. Leaving the shade of the mountain, the snow actually stayed very good through the shrubbed slopes almost all the way back to the valley floor.
